Renuvion for the neck tightens mild to moderate laxity under the chin and along the jawline without a neck-lift scar. A small amount of neck liposuction removes the fat pad, then a thin probe delivers helium plasma energy beneath the skin so it contracts over the new contour. It suits patients whose skin still has some spring; for significant hanging skin or muscle bands, a neck lift is the right operation. Dr. Itay Wiser offers both in NYC and tells you which you need.
How it works on the neck
Through two or three access points a few millimeters wide, hidden under the chin and behind the earlobes, liposuction removes the submental fat pad. The Renuvion probe is then passed under the skin, delivering brief pulses of cool plasma that heat the connective tissue for a fraction of a second. The tissue contracts immediately and continues to remodel collagen for months, firming the skin along the jawline and under the chin.
Candidate or not
| Good candidate | Better served by a neck lift |
|---|---|
| Mild to moderate laxity under the chin | Significant hanging skin (a visible wattle) |
| A small submental fat pad | Prominent vertical muscle bands |
| Skin with some spring when pinched | Thin, crepey, inelastic skin |
| Wants improvement without a neck-lift scar and accepts a modest result | Wants a sharply defined, lifted neck |
Renuvion vs neck lift
| Neck liposuction with Renuvion | Neck lift | |
|---|---|---|
| Treats | Mild to moderate laxity, fat pad | Significant laxity, muscle bands, jowls |
| Scars | Two or three tiny access points | Behind the ears and under the chin |
| Anesthesia | Local with sedation | General or deep sedation |
| Downtime | A few days to a week | Two weeks |
| Result | Firmer, smoother contour; modest | Lifted, defined neck; lasting |
Recovery and results
A compression chin strap for several days to a week; swelling and bruising for one to two weeks; desk work within a few days. Some tightening is visible as swelling settles; the full result develops over three to six months. The Renuvion skin tightening in NYC page covers the technology and other areas, and its honesty section explains when energy devices are the wrong tool.
Frequently asked questions
Who is a good candidate for Renuvion neck tightening?
Someone with mild to moderate laxity under the chin or along the jawline, often with a small fat pad, and skin that still has some spring. Typically patients in their thirties to fifties, or older patients with good skin quality.
Who is not a candidate?
Anyone with significant hanging neck skin, visible vertical muscle bands, or very thin, inelastic skin. For them a neck lift is the treatment, and Renuvion would disappoint.
Is Renuvion done alone or with liposuction?
Almost always with a small amount of neck liposuction, which removes the fat pad and creates the space for the probe; Renuvion then tightens the skin over the new contour.
How long do results last?
The collagen remodeling is durable, but aging continues; most patients enjoy the improvement for several years. It does not stop the neck from aging.
What is recovery like?
A compression chin strap for several days to a week, swelling and bruising for one to two weeks, desk work within a few days, and final results at three to six months.
